What are "dark-morph" hawks and "eclipse plumage" ducks? You'll find out in this class that will focus on the field identification of raptors and waterfowl, stressing variation in plumage between males and females, as well as juveniles and adults. We'll explore the behaviors, seasonal distribution and movements, preferred habitats, and unique behaviors of various raptors (i.e., hawks, eagles, and falcons) and waterfowl (i.e., ducks, geese, and swans) to try to demystify these fascinating bird families, as well as some of their close relatives such as grebes and loons.
